Sanctoria, June 14, 2026: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi crossed 4,399 days in office, becoming India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister, the government’s “Swasth Bharat” vision has emerged as a central pillar of national development. Healthcare policy has increasingly prioritised affordability, accessibility and technology integration, with flagship initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat accelerating India’s progress towards universal health coverage.
Aligned with this national trajectory, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has continued to strengthen its integrated healthcare ecosystem across its operational areas in West Bengal and Jharkhand, combining institutional infrastructure, digital enablement and community outreach.
ECL currently operates a multi-tier healthcare network comprising two central hospitals and seven regional hospitals, supported by 98 dispensaries across its command areas. The system is served by a total of 138 doctors, ensuring continued medical support for employees, dependents and local communities.
In line with its long-term infrastructure strategy, ECL is also in the process of establishing a 300-bedded hospital at Godda in collaboration with the Government of Jharkhand, aimed at significantly enhancing advanced healthcare capacity in the region.
The company has continued to expand last-mile healthcare access through mobile medical units and outreach programmes in remote and mining-affected areas. During FY 2025–26, numerous health and family welfare camps were organised, benefiting thousands of people across its operational regions, reinforcing grassroots healthcare delivery.
Digital healthcare remains a key focus area, with telemedicine-enabled services facilitating consultations across dispersed mining areas. ECL’s hospitals are also aligned with national digital health initiatives, supporting improved patient data management and continuity of care.
Strengthening its specialised care capabilities, ECL has introduced advanced treatment services, including oncology care at its central hospital in Sanctoria, reflecting a shift towards technology-driven and specialised healthcare within coalfield regions.
Preventive healthcare and occupational safety continue to remain integral to ECL’s strategy, with structured health monitoring systems and dedicated interventions addressing mining-related health risks. Affordable access to medicines is supported through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, including round-the-clock services at key facilities.
Beyond institutional healthcare, ECL continues to drive community-focused interventions under its CSR initiatives, including sanitation infrastructure, hygiene awareness programmes and rural ambulance services, contributing to improved public health outcomes in surrounding areas.
As India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, ECL’s integrated approach – spanning infrastructure, digital health, preventive care and community outreach – underscores its role in translating the Swasth Bharat vision into tangible outcomes across the coal belt.
The company remains committed to further strengthening its healthcare ecosystem, with a focus on expanding reach, enhancing quality and supporting inclusive and sustainable development.
